Monticello seeks a full-time chef to manage the daily food operations of Farm Table, Monticello's cafe.  The chef will be responsible for developing and serving a menu of breakfast, lunch, beverage and snack items which reflect Thomas Jefferson's enthusiasm for agriculture and his appreciation for diverse culinary traditions including Colonial, French, and African American influences.  The chef will also create catering menus for special events and work with the Farm Table manager to meet catering goals.  In collaboration with the Farm Table manager, the chef will order ingredients for the cafe that emphasize local agriculture and responsible sourcing while adhering to financial targets.  The chef will also help train and supervise employees in the cafe.  The chef must adhere to all local, state and federal regulations regarding food preparation and ensure that the cafe is maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness. The ideal candidate will have a college or culinary degree, but relevant work history will be considered. A proven track record in the creation of seasonal menus with a focus on sustainable ingredients is required. The candidate must have a minimum of five years as a chef for a food and beverage establishment with progressive responsibilities. This position will be Monday-Friday during regular business hours, with occasional evening and weekend hours (advance notice will be provided). Position is open until filled.
